Book of the Month: Vicious Vikings

Book review of Vicious Vikings by Terry Deary

Review by Felix and Tom

‘Vicious Vikings’ was partly read by and partly read to Tom, aged 11 and Felix, aged 9. Both enjoyed the book on the whole. Tom found it easy reading whereas Felix found it slightly more challenging. They both loved that it presented lots of facts in a fun way and when there were questions the answers were on the same page (albeit upside down) so you did not have to go hunting for them. They were excited about the fact that instructions were given to build a boat – a future project perhaps! They also liked that the text was very varied, with cartoons, illustrations and different font sizes and styles. However there was one criticism from Tom as he did not like the timeline chapter, stating that it was not very interesting. All in all this is a great book to introduce younger readers to the Vikings in a historically accurate yet engaging way.
