Dr Victoria Thompson Whitworth examines the world which produced the Book of Kells, and the art of the Book itself, and makes a compelling case for this most glorious of manuscripts to have been made in an eastern Scottish monastery. Dr Thompson Whitworth is a former lecturer at the Institute for Northern Studies in Orkney. She is the author of Dying and Death in Later Anglo-Saxon England, three historical novels set in the 9th and 10th centuries and a forthcoming major new study of the Book of Kells.
