As custodians of Scotland's National treasures the National Museums of Scotland are both owners and curators of our unique collection of Pictish Sculpture. Tarbat Historic Trust consults with the N.M.S. on all matters relating to its core collection, other significant finds, loans and future developments generally within the Discovery Centre. They are pro-active in their endeavours to assist with the long term sustainability of the Centre and with bringing the importance of the collection and the monastic settlement to the attention of the greater public. In 2006 the National Museums Archaeology Department hosted a Schools' Education Week here at the Centre. It was the first year that our annual 'dig' had taken place in term time and provided an unmissable opportunity to have local school children attend the Centre. The N.M.S. provided staffing, materials and transport for all the schools who received practical and theoretical archaeology lessons both inside the Museum and out at the site. They also created large Pictish Crosses in paper with designs taken from original Scuptures. In all more than 300 eager pupils visited us during the week and the whole event was a great success. We remain continually grateful to the National Museums of Scotland for their enthusiastic support of our past, present and future ventures.
