
Towards the end of the 18th century,
during renovation work to the North Aisle below, this Loft was built for the comfort
and convenience of the current Laird and his household.
It was approached by an outside staircase, had its
own fireplace installed, and was designed to face the minister's pulpit, then situated
on the South wall of the church.
Here, during what were often daylong services, the
Laird could take refreshment, whilst at the same time ensuring that his family
and servants paid attention to the service taking place below. Signs remained, until present restoration,
that there would have been a handsome wooden over-mantel above the fireplace,
and pews at the front of the loft for ease of viewing.

Today the 30 seat 'Laird's Loft' is used for screening the 'Tarbat and The Picts' video introduction and for the summer lecture series held annualy here at the Centre.
